My academic training in the arts of science include a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Detroit Mercy and, more recently, a Master of Science in Basic Medical Sciences from Wayne State University. My journey as a student navigating studying for tests and learning to apply test preparation skills in standardized exams equips me well as a tutor. I understand the emotions students may experience as they feel pressure to perform well on exams. I enjoy helping students discover their own learning style through discussion and co-creative methods; I find interactive learning much more effective than traditional authoritative lectures. I start tutoring sessions with new students by specifically identifying how they are struggling and we begin our learning session from there. I believe this is the best place to start and I like my tutoring sessions to be fun. I have extensive experience as a tutor in a wide range of subjects, including science, math, reading, test preparation, and writing. I am most passionate about biology and teaching test preparation skills; these are a major component to success on an exam. I attribute my own success as a student to my test preparation knowledge. Exercise and basketball are hobbies of mine. I enjoy sports, music, traveling, and reading. I hope to be an effective guide for you on your path to academic success.
